Being South facing the climate at Maesfron is usually mild, although three successive very hard Winters a few years ago caused considerable damage to many sensitive species – particularly in the Tropical Garden. Spring comes early and the whole gardens are clothed in a sea of yellow daffodils and celandines – and for 2022 more have been planted in the gardens below the Tower – this time with later flowering species. In Summer, the growth is lush with unusual wildflowers dotted everywhere, but being on a steep mountainside the ground drains quickly, and watering is an ongoing task. Autumn shows the many specimen trees at their best and the whole of Maesfron is a broad spectrum of colour. Winters can be mild - but they can also show their teeth - as the above photo shows.
